A Brief History of Bridgefolk Records
Bridgefolk
Records was started in the summer of 1995 by the founding members of the band
Three Mile Limit: Mike Lawrence, Chris Titchner and Tom Williams. Three Mile
Limit had already released one cassette in the fall of 1994 and decided that
their follow-up needed to be on a label. Since their seemed to be no real interest
from any major label at that time, the trio started their own. During a brainstorming
session after a rehearsal it was decided that their new label would be called
Bridgefolk Records. There have been many different explanations of the name
Bridgefolk over the years, but truthfully... at the time it just sounded good.
The explanation the band used most often was Bridgefolk Records was the bridge
between folk and other kinds of music. When it came time to create a logo, an
amazingly accurate and detailed stickfigure likeness was created for each band
member and then placed on a bridge.
Chris, Mike and Tom began using BFR to release not just Three Mile Limit recordings, but also their own solo projects and music by their friends. In 1996, BFR released its first CD, Three Mile Limit's, Floating Off Somewhere Else.
In the fall of 1997, Tom left Three Mile Limit and Bridgefolk Records to persue other interests. Several months later Mike moved to Boston. Chris stuck around Burlington and continued making music and releasing it on Bridgefolk Records.
Bridgefolk Records prides itself on releasing quality acoustic music that appeals to all ages and most musical tastes.
